Tara Mehrad is a singer-songwriter, vocalist, instrumentalist and music producer.
Her artistic journey is defined by a deep quest for freedom, authenticity, and the fusion of cultures. Rebel and borderless, her music reflects a rich and multifaceted identity. Her unique and powerful voice conveys intense emotion in every language she explores. She composes in Persian, French, and English, yet sings in many tongues, guided by her encounters and inspirations. Imbued with her Iranian roots, her exile in France, and her musical ties to South America, Brazil, and beyond, her universe carries messages of unity, resilience, and universal love. A messenger of the invisible, she creates to liberate, awaken, and remind everyone of their own light.

“Music has been my savior since I was a little girl in Iran, where it was forbidden. At first, I took refuge in that invisible world, the world of others through songs that resonated deeply with my soul. We had only a few cassettes, a few vinyls, but to me, they were life itself. Then, I followed that light until I began creating my own songs ; sanctuary vibrations, meant to welcome me when the world feels hostile, but also to offer that same refuge to all those who listen.
My one and only goal has always been, as Gandhi said, to be the change I wish to see in the world. But it is also to remind every human being of the immense inner power that slumbers within them, an invisible, incredible, and wondrous power, capable of creating and transforming everything.”
Tara Mehrad
The Journey
Born in Tehran, Tara grew up in an environment where access to the arts, particularly for women, was restricted. Despite these obstacles, she began playing piano at the age of 6, later picked up the guitar, and developed a passion for singing. By her teenage years, she joined rock, pop, and jazz bands, performing in clandestine concerts in the underground basements of Tehran. These experiences forged her revolutionary spirit and a profound desire to express herself freely through music. In parallel, she studied architecture while searching for a way to pursue her true passion. At the age of 23, Tara successfully left Iran to settle in Paris, where she dedicated herself entirely to music.

Training & Musical Identity
In Paris, Tara trained in modern music, exploring jazz, Brazilian music, and world music at renowned institutions. She also refined her vocal technique through classical training while deepening her research into the performing arts, the connection between mysticism and the human voice, and the diversity of musical expression. Alongside her studies, she performed in various jazz and world music concerts, further consolidating her unique musical identity.

Tara is a committed voice for human rights and social solidarity. Her single, “Maman,” is a poignant tribute dedicated to the Iranian mothers and children who endured the isolation and suffering of communication blackouts.
Songs of Freedom
Ever committed to freedom of expression worldwide, Tara places creation at the very heart of resistance movements. Since the Woman Life Freedom uprising, she has written and composed several works dedicated to this struggle, such as Until Freedom, Ahoo, To Iran with Love, and Maman. Through her performance ‘We Are the World’—created in collaboration with fellow musicians Ricardo Feijao, Fred Sicart, Laurent de Oliveira, Laurent Lecuyer, Martin Berauer, and others—she transforms her art into a universal act of witness and revolt.

Her soul-stirring performances have left a mark on many gatherings, notably at the New Morning in Paris in March 2026, during a solidarity evening for the Iranian people organized by the Panahe association and the Mix ta Race collective. This creative commitment has also been highlighted in the media, particularly on TSF Jazz during the special broadcast ‘Iran: Sowing despite the storm.’ Invited by Laurent Sapir and Sébastien Vidal, alongside filmmaker Sepideh Farsi and drummer Cyril Atef, Tara reaffirmed her vision of art as a vital form of resistance—a mission for universal freedom she has always carried, and continues to sculpt through her words and music.
